You’ll notice that the biography contains quite a lot of plot detail that can be used in the novel. At this stage, I’d be tempted to at least begin the novel from Ronald’s point of view. When I’d bring Stevie Simpson into the story and establish her as the lead character, is a matter I’d have to think about at the outlining stage. The story could end up as a battle of wits between the two of them.

Minor And Recurring Characters

How many characters you write biographies for is entirely up to you. Certainly, the two main characters need to be covered in some detail, everyone else, far less. I usually write short biographies for characters who are in any way connected to the story or who will potentially be returning in some way. I say, ‘potentially’ because you never know until the outline is completed who will end up doing what. Plus there will undoubtedly be more novels to come in this ‘bestselling’ series!

When I’m writing up minor characters, the upper limit for me is around 500 words, but most get far fewer. Don’t try and write War and Peace: you need just enough information to prevent mistakes being made. Age, nationality, appearance, foibles, that kind of thing.
